ROSS REGATTA WINS

Runcorn Rowing Club made their annual trip down to Ross on Wye Regatta over the Bank Holiday weekend and came away with some well-earned wins. The 35 rowers competed in a wide variety of categories over two days; Juniors and Masters racing on the Sunday followed by Senior rowers on the Sunday. The 750m downstream course had a staggered start and finish and proved to be quite a challenge due to fast flowing waters and windy conditions. Due to the high number of entries, rowers had to work through a series of heats, semis and finals before reaching their goal of a win. Stiff opposition from established clubs such Upper Thames, Dart Totnes, Hereford, made for nail biting racing and enhanced everyone's racing experience. Saturday saw the start of the club's great performance, as they came second in the Dragon Boat Racing, having entered 3 fancy dressed crews. Hawaiian grass skirts and garlands were the order of the day. Chris Edwards Club Captain said " We are really proud of the club's performance, with all the wins being well deserved. Congratulations should also go to many of our other crews who made it through to the finals but unfortunately just got pipped to the post on the finishing line" Chris also added " It was good to see Runcorn's community spirit at work, with all the rowers being supported by their families, who camped en masse over the weekend and made for a highly vocal crowd on the river bank" Results Stuart Beard lost his novice status by winning the Open IM3 Coxless Pair, rowing with Dave Street Anne Hignell, Chris Wheatley, Carolyn Newton and Pete Newton secured a win in Mixed Masters D Coxless Quad. Hugo Norris, Sam Edwards, Stuart Beards and Dave Street won the Open IM3 Coxed Four steered to victory by cox Liam Street. Claire Norris and Kevin Reynolds won the Mixed Masters D/E Double Sculls.
