The Seven areas of development for every member of Runcorn Rowing Club

Start at the top, and work down the list one by one. No one person is perfect, no one can forget to think about being better at one of these elements each and every stroke.

  1. Bladework putting the blade in at the end of the recovery, and taking it out at the end of the draw.
  2. Sequence Legs -> body -> arms in the draw, arms -> body -> legs in the recovery
  3. Rhythm Power in the stroke levering horizontally, then a balanced, controlled, gliding, relaxed recovery
  4. Hip Pivot developing sequence to feel tall and straight armed for 80% of the stroke, and using the pelvis to finish the draw.
  5. Consistent acceleration using the above every stroke, reliable for a whole outing, or work piece.
  6. The Run The sorcery that is letting the boat do as much work for you as is both scientifically and artistically possible.
  7. The small boat being able to do all of the above in a small boat – able in a single, pair or double.
